With a cold winter approaching, the new ‘Winter Warmth Scheme’, which began on the 14th November, will help many CA12 residents in the upcoming months.

‘The idea is to try and provide a community venue every afternoon of the week,  go and meet others if they wish, where they can keep warm, get a hot drink and, you know, perhaps just help in the winter,’ said Keith Rigg, a member involved in the CA12 Winter Warmth Scheme.

Funded by Keswick Rotary Club, Keswick Lions Club, Keswick Town Council, Cumbria Community Foundation and the Freemasons, the Warm Spaces are open from 1:00pm to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday (although some locations may vary in time).

Through a partnership with the Keswick Rotary Club and the Churches in Keswick, local buildings have opened their doors ‘free of charge’, with volunteers to aid people through the tough winter ahead and the current cost of living crisis.

With fun for all ages, the Warm Spaces are creating a welcoming, friendly area for all. ‘There’s a range of activities [...], newspapers, magazines, puzzles, dominoes, and table games,’ stated Mr Rigg.

The teams of volunteers are already witnessing the immediate, positive impact their project is having. ‘Last week, we saw around 33 people and one dog,’ observed Mr Rigg. Many are taking advantage of these valuable spaces and experiencing the support surrounding them.

Help us to spread the word of the wonderful scheme, which will undoubtedly provide an important lifeline to many Keswickians through the coming winter.
