On Sunday 20th of November one of the biggest competitions in the world started, the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world, but was the decision to hold it there correct?

Qatar is not a country known for its football, but for its wealth and human rights issues. However by hosting the FIFA World Cup it helps increase the presence of football in the Middle East and could promote the love for football further across the world.

This World Cup is also the first of many for young players like Saka, Bellingham, Musiala and Pedri which gives them experience in the world of football. They will have the opportunity to play in a different climate in an air conditioned stadium which will be a first for many.

However, the big question is the human rights of the country, for example there is mistreatment of the LGBTQ+ community and how 6,500 migrant workers died due to building the stadiums. Some of the workers got as little as £275 a month. Was it really worth it?

Yet, this could be a World Cup with a difference. The first autumn world cup, there has been some shock results for countries not usually associated with football. Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2-1,  Argentina have not lost a game in 36 international games, and Japan beat Germany 2 -1.

Only time will tell how the World Cup in Qatar will be remembered. Will it change the football world? Hopefully by Qatar hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 we will all learn from each other and learn to tolerate differences and beliefs.
