James Wright will be back in Workington colours tonight when the Comets pay their first visit to Scunthorpe.
He is standing in for number one Daniel Nermark whose hand injury is worse than he thought after riding in Sweden.
Nermark fell during Monday’s meeting at Rye House and there were initial fears that he might have broken his scaphoid. However he was able to ride in Sweden 24 hours later and scored 12 points.
He rode in Sweden again last night where the doctor advised him to miss-out as he was in a lot of discomfort.
Comets team boss Ian Thomas said: “Daniel is now having intensive physio in a bid to be back riding on Saturday at Derwent Park.
“We are entitled to a guest and consequently I have booked James for the match at Scunthorpe and put him on stand-by for Saturday’s home meeting with Reading.”
Wright, has not ridden in the Premier League this season after switching to Swindon Robins to concentrate on his Elite League career.
The Scorpions team is set to remain unchanged for tonight after Monday’s impressive win against Somerset.
The rapidly improving Viktor Bergström will continue to ride at reserve and is set to stay there until the end of the month. He said: “Everything is coming together now. The engine is going really well but the footrest just came off in one race. I couldn’t control the bike and we were on for a 5-1 in that one”.
Monday’s meeting proved the Scorpions can compete with the best sides in the Premier League, despite it only being their first season in the higher league, whilst at the same time the track is producing fantastic racing.
After beating Somerset for a first League win Godfrey said: “That was one of the best adverts for the sport you could ever see. We had a big crowd, great weather, two tense matches that produced home wins and some of the most incredible racing.
“Hopefully, now the weather is a bit warmer, plenty of new fans are going to give us a try. The football season is finished and the racing this year is fantastic”.
Riding in the Elite League last night, Wright scored five points at number two helping Swindon to a 49-43 win over Coventry Bees.
