WITH so many pubs and clubs closing today, Olga Lytollis, of Dalston, sent Timeline this photograph taken of the regulars at the popular White Ox, Durdar during the mid 1950’s.

She told us: “The pub, although on the outskirts of the city, was always busy.

“My mum and dad used to go every Saturday night. As there weren’t many cars around in those days, the regulars had to either take the bus or walk.

“Mum and dad used to walk from their home in Woodside North, Upperby, through Hammonds Pond and onto the Durdar road,

“The White Ox was a State Management pub and was so vibrant, thanks to the landlady at the time, Ethel Blair.

“The picture is taken of the regulars about to go off on a day-trip.”

“I’m not sure where the trip was going, but it would be good to see if anyone can remember.”
