Psychedelic rockers at the Sands

PSYCHEDELIC rockers Kasabian are the latest big name band to play the Sands Centre, in Carlisle.

The Leicester five-piece play the venue on Saturday, August 16. The gig is one of four warm up dates ahead of the band headlining the 10th Creamfields Festival, in Liverpool, on August 24, and the Connect Festival, Inveraray, on August 29.

The other warm up dates are at Newcastle Carling Academy, Wolverhampton Civic Hall and in Lincoln.

Drawing on the laid-back electronica-indie-rock fusion of Primal Scream and Stone Roses, and the swagger of Oasis, the band released their self-titled album in 2004, followed by Empire in 2006.

The band are in the studio finishing their third album which is due to be released early in 2009.

Jonathan Higgins, events manager at the Sands, says: “It’s really turning into a summer of music in Carlisle, with Stereophonics, Boyzone and McFly and now Kasabian playing within a few weeks of each other.”

At the moment tickets are only available to the Sands’ group members, such as their Facebook group, priced £20.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public shortly. For ticket information go to www.livenation.co.uk
