Lucid Dream: Playing tonight

The Lucid Dream, who were only formed in January, are appearing at the Club Boof indie night at the venue in Tangier Street.

The Lucid Dream are based in Carlisle. They like to experiment with psychedelic Sixties sounds such as backwards guitars and sitar, and their live performances also feature strobes and other light effects. They are one of four bands performing. They will be joined by The Troubadors, The Brogues and Ramsays.

The Troubadors, from Liverpool, have just toured with Paul Weller and are set to appear at this year’s V Festival alongside group such as The Verve and the Kings of Leon. Their sound is said to be influenced by the La’s, The Coral and The Beatles.

The Brogues were formed in March last year and have built up a huge following in their native Dundee and in Glasgow. They last appeared in Whitehaven supporting The Rascals. Ramsays are from Newcastle and play a mixture of indie, punk and new wave and recently played the 3volution Festival in their home city.

The night has been organised by John Fitzsimmons and Danny Maudling. Danny said the groups all played different styles of music to ensure variety.

“We try and provide a good mix on the nights,” he said.

Doors open at 8pm and the first band are on at 9pm.

Tickets £5, available in advance from Contemporary at 16 King Street, Whitehaven, on 01946 599900 or from www.ticketweb.co.uk
