IF the mark of a special player is the number of times he causes your mouth to fall open involuntarily, or the frequency with which he leaves you wishing for immediate action replays in a League One ground, then Keiren Westwood has to go down as one of the most stunning Carlisle United performers of recent times.
Interviewing the recently-departed Blues goalkeeper was always an enlightening delve into his affection for the club which rescued him from obscurity in 2004.
The only thing which seemed to nark Westwood about life at Brunton Park is that he wasn’t playing in front of 20,000 fans or more every week.
When he got the chance, against such opponents as Leeds and Nottingham Forest, his displays were among his most spectacular.
You always pause before staking your reputation on a player’s future, but tipping Westwood to shine at Coventry City and beyond does not feel anything like a wild punt in the dark.
