Your future, your choice...

THERE has never been better opportunities for 16-year-olds to continue their education or train for an exciting career.
JHP TRAINING
MAKING the right choice after leaving school can be difficult; you know that going on to further education and gaining qualifications will benefit you in the future, but you also know that employers value work experience.
An apprenticeship from JHP Training gives you the benefit of both while also earning a wage.
Apprenticeships are the ideal way to get a head start in your chosen career as well as avoiding the debt that higher education can bring. More school leavers are turning to apprenticeships as a real alternative and finding that the possibilities an apprenticeship offers are infinite.
JHP Training are pleased to offer apprenticeships in business administration, customer service, retail, management, team-leading, child care and health and social care. There are no formal entry requirements – you just need to be committed, determined to succeed and aware of your responsibilities as an employee.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a JHP Apprentice, please contact Claire Roberts on 01228 536373 or Judith Hill on 01946 690909.
WEST CUMBRIA CATHOLIC SIXTH FORM CENTRE
THINKING of staying on at school? Looking for a quality education in a caring environment? Have you considered the West Cumbria Catholic Sixth Form Centre?
This joint centre for St Joseph’s Catholic School in Workington and St Benedict’s Catholic School in Whitehaven is one of the largest providers of A-level courses in the west of the county.
Last September our numbers were at a record high with 270 students in years 12 and 13 following a range of courses at AS, A2 AVCE and Level 2.
If you are looking for variety and are considering subjects different from those you have studied at GCSE we could be the option for you.
Psychology, engineering, travel and tourism, electronics, performing arts and health and social care are all on offer in addition to the traditional A-levels.
As well as academic subjects the Centre offers students opportunities to get involved in a range of enrichment activities such as charity events, team sports including rugby, football and netball, and taking up positions of responsibility.
We cater for students of all abilities, faiths and backgrounds. The end result is a well-rounded education where the majority of students leave having advanced themselves on so many levels.
Our Celtic cross logo, with its four dimensions, Academic, Sporting, Spiritual and Social, are all fully considered and the result is a well-rounded education where the majority of students leave having advanced themselves on so many levels.
We have an excellent track record getting students on the right career paths and advice is always at hand either via a personal tutor, student support officer or the Connexions adviser based at the school.
It is always pleasing to see the number of happy faces on A-level results day achieving the grades needed to go to their first choice of university or further education option.
We have recently expanded with new buildings and new structures such as mixed year 12 and 13 tutor groups and are serious about education and want all our students to get the best out of their two years with us.

ST BEES SCHOOL SIXTH FORM
THE School has a Sixth Form of around 100 pupils and is seen by many parents as the ideal place for their son or daughter to spend the transition years between the very structured GCSE courses and the freedoms of University.
Sixth form day pupils are attached to one of the three boarding houses. They are able to make use of the various common rooms and study areas in their Houses at appropriate times during the school day. They are also able to base themselves in the Sixth Form Centre which was opened in September 2002. Here sixth formers have the use of a large social and recreational area served by a kitchen, a study resource centre with computer access points to the school network and a games room.
All pupils are allocated a Personal Tutor who is responsible for their academic and social wellbeing during the whole of their Sixth Form career.
The Lower Sixth curriculum provides pupils with the foundation on which to build in the Upper Sixth, as well as the opportunity to study complementary subjects for extra breadth. Pupils are expected to study four (or in some cases three) subjects to AS standard.
The Upper Sixth curriculum allows pupils to concentrate on developing a greater depth of understanding of their chosen A2 subjects – usually three in total. Important areas such as study skills, personal and social education, and tutorial work focusing on career decisions and higher education applications, will also be addressed.
St Bees School Sixth Form has a great deal to offer, bringing together the benefits of its size, opportunities for all individuals to excel, the wide diversity of experience that a residential campus can offer to both day and boarding pupils, and surpassed support by a caring and experienced staff.
