Work by 40 sixth-form students at Ullswater Community College is going on display to the public in a special exhibition this evening – and it has been described by the college head teacher as “awe-inspiring”.

The exhibition forms part of students’ portfolios for their AS and A2 Level art exams.

One of the most unusual exhibits is a painting of a skyscape, viewed on a series of mirrors at different angles, creating the illusion that the sky is moving.

Head teacher Stewart Gimber said: “The exhibition shows the talent of our students and the quality of their inspirational teachers. They produce varied and awe-inspiring work.”

One art teacher, Julie Broadhurst, died recently and Mr Gimber said: “Their work is the finest possible tribute to her.”

Staff member Anna Burford said: “The work is of very high quality. We have a good record of students going on to study art at university.”

The exhibition at the college, in Wetheriggs Lane, is open from 7pm to 9pm this evening. It will also be available to view by appointment on weekdays until Friday, July 18. Admission is free. Phone 01768 242160 to arrange a viewing.
