Denham calls on fans to rev up for Fours event

COMETS owner Keith Denham is urging fans up and down the country to sample the new Workington experience at the Premier League Fours on July 26.
Denham, in his first season in charge at Derwent Park, was in a jubilant mood after Comets duo Daniel Nermark and Kauko Nieminen won the Pairs campionship at Somerset.
Now he wants to complete a Super 7even double - by winning the Fours on his own track.
Improvements have been carried out at the Cumbrian venue since Denham took control of the club from long-serving owner Tony Mole.
He said: “It’s been hard work without a doubt but the rewards are there for all to see, we're getting compliments all the time.
"We've worked on the track, spectator facilities and lighting and I would urge fans to come up and see it for themselves.
"Crowds are up on last season which is great and we aim to put on a proper show for the fans. We're getting a lot of backing for the meeting, Hi-Q have stepped in with sponsorship and we want to make the event a big success for the BSPA.
"Fans from visiting clubs will be given a warm welcome. It will be good to see them all. I'm looking forward to it already."
The full line-up will be announced in the next week or so by the BSPA.
Meanwhile Denham and his team manager Ian Thomas will be casting interested eyes over Perry Barr, Birmingham tonight.
King’s Lynn provide the opposition against the injury-hit Brummies and number one Kevin Doolan and reserve Kozza Smith have been booked to ride for the Comets on Saturday against Redcar.
“I’m interested to see how they get on there against Birmingham. I’m happy with the bookings and think they will be good replacements for Daniel Nermark and Tomi Reima, but I’m keeping fingers crossed they come through tonight with no mishaps,” said Thomas.
The Brummies have booked Paul Clews and Andre Compton as guests for tonight’s clash.
Redcar Bears, who visit Workington on Saturday, have a man in form.
Youngster Ty Proctor notched his best score in British speedway - 15 (paid 16) as the Bears overcame Birmingham in the damp clash of two injury-hit teams last week.
Proctor said: "The track was heavy early on and then, with the rain just continually coming down, it turned it into slop. But the track staff did well and, if we could get back on the inside, it was good. I was making starts like I've never made in my life, so I wanted to keep going. Once you're in front, the hard work is done."
