Salmon run too good to be true for John

Salmon were running like buses on the Low House Estate stretch of the river Eden – and John Barrowclough landed TWO after a 37-year wait.
John a guest on the Low House beat fished a Cascade in Bransty to take his first two salmon at 9½ and 10lb.
Armathwaite rod Mike Noble landed a 10lb salmon in Nichol Hole on a fly of his own making.
Ian Bullough also fished Nichol Hole and using a Cascade Ian also tempted a 10 pounder. On the Armathwaite beat, Ian Nellis fished a black Flying C in Low Holme to land an eight-pounder. .
Gordon Jefferies of Portinscale landed a superb 6lb sea trout on a Cascade fly from the Lazonby Estate water of the River Eden close to where Croglin Water joins the main river.
The Lazonby Estate water has also been producing some good trout and grayling recently with trout anglers reporting grayling to 2½ lb and one trout angler reported a catch of 17 brownies between ¾ lb and 1¾ lb.
At Warwick Hall on Sunday the House Pool was the pool to fish with three anglers landing salmon there during the course of the day.
Keith Brownson fished a worm to land a 10 pounder, Geoff Baines adopted the same tactics to land a 12 lb fish and Stuart Rose fished the fly to take a 10 pounder.
Tuesday's King of Whin's League is still wide open with no one dominating the matches this season.
Simon Willan, well known for his Derwent bears sculptures, won his first match. Fishing peg eight he landed a mixed bag of carp, bream and tench on the pole for a total of 18lb 2oz. Steve Cooper on peg 31 opted for feeder at 30 yards landing two bream and skimmers for 12lb 1oz and second. Alan Edmondson caught two bream from peg 9 for 11lb 14oz and third.
Last Tuesday Carlisle tackle dealer Eifion Harris recorded his first win of the season landing two good bream from peg three on the feeder and worm adding roach and skimmers for 14lb 6oz.
Jeff Whittle used the pole to good effect on peg 23, using pellet hook bait and catching silver fish and a small tench he weighed in 11lb 1oz.
Alan Edmondson fished spicy shrimp and prawn boilies on peg 5 landing two good tench; the best an impressive 5lb 15oz to finish with 10lb 2oz.
Dave Wardman had 9lb for fourth, Ian Corri had 8lb 7oz and Tony Whear had a net of tiny silver fish for sixth place and 7lb 8oz.
Three-year-old Callum McGarry is the youngest person to take advantage of the free tackle and bait supplied by Browning and Cotswold Baits in their £50,000 initiative to entice new participants to the sport.
Callum was signed up for the programme by his grandfather, and went to Broom Fisheries, Annan to claim his equipment. He was rewarded with his first ever fish, a gudgeon.

Paul used a sedge pattern and landed a cracking 4lb brown trout. Derek landed three rainbow to 6½ lb using sedge and Cats Whiskers.
Between 9am and 4pm tomorrow Hadrian Fishery are holding a Fly Fishing Competition in aid of Priory Special Needs School, Hexham.
