Adebisi fit for Celtic Crusaders clash

Winger Ade Adebisi has spoken of how he emerged from a three-day hospital stint to put in a try-scoring turn for Whitehaven.

Adebisi was sidelined by a leg problem until Wednesday last week but remarkably shrugged off the effects at Sheffield on Friday night, scoring a first-half try in the 32-14 win.

“Before the game I was worried,” he admitted. “I had been in hospital for three days and was really nervous, thinking I wouldn’t be able to play.

“But when the game started, adrenalin kicked in and there was no need to worry.”

Coach Ged Stokes’ game plan was to take on the big Sheffield forwards down the middle, but Adebisi still managed to get in on the act.

“It wasn’t going to be a winger’s game. If we beat them at the ruck, we would beat them in the game,” he added.

“But I know when Carl Rudd’s going to kick for me, and that was it. It was raining so the ball was slippery, but I was happy to catch it and put it over the line.”

Adebisi has now returned to full health and is delighted the club have opted for an overnight stay ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Celtic Crusaders in Bridgend.

“We will be rested, as we don’t have to travel six hours on the day,” he said. “It’s the perfect thing to do. We’ve beaten them once this season, and going down the day before, we can do it again.”

Adebisi warmly thanked the nurses of Pillar ward at the West Cumberland Hospital for their attention during his stay.

Celtic will field a similar team to that beaten at Featherstone last week. Jace Van Dijk, Terry Martin, Neale Wyatt and Josh Hannay are all still injured but Aled James is available.
