Chris Lumsdon has handed Carlisle United a pre-season injury scare after he was ruled out of tonight’s friendly with Chester City with a back injury.
The midfielder lasted less than half an hour after coming on as a second half sub in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Partick Thistle after he suffered a back injury.
He was still in severe pain when he reported to Brunton Park for training yesterday morning, and may not even be risked in Saturday’s friendly with Preston.
Boss John Ward said: “Chris had a muscles spasm in his back and it’s very tight. He came in still very sore on Monday, so we’ve decided there is no point in pushing him.
“It hasn’t been a problem before so it’s caught us by surprise, and we’re hoping he will be OK for Preston.”
Trialist Tyrone Cameron, a former Fulham trainee who was released at the end of last season, will be given a chance to impress tonight.
The 18-year-old right-back has been promised a run out at some stage of the game after arriving at Brunton Park on Monday in a bid to win a return ticket to the game.
Ward, who is keen to sign cover for regular right-back David Raven, monitored Cameron in Fulham’s youth and reserves side last season.
The Blues boss said: “We’ve taken the opportunity to have a week with him. He’s a young boy who has played youth a reserve football so he would be one for the future if he stays.
“He’s got pace, he’s quick and bright and he can play.
“We’re two or three weeks ahead of him on fitness so his general fitness is short, but he has other attributes.
“He was prepared to get on a train and arrive in Carlisle on Sunday, and that says a lot for him.”
Danny Graham, who missed Saturday’s friendly against Partick with blistered feet, returns tonight against Chester, and is expected to start the game.
Ward, who used 20 players at Firhill on Saturday, is again planning to give as many players as possible a run-out.
Tonight’s game at the Diva Stadium kicks off at 7.45pm.
