COCKERMOUTH School students got the chance to speak to industry professionals at a careers convention recently.

Representatives from a broad range of industries, including accountancy, environmental health and the Army, turned up to exhibit and offer advice to interested students.

The event, which was organised by Connexions Cumbria, provided the opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge of the careers that interest them.

They found out about various training routes, salaries and the local and national labour market.

Sue Lamb, team leader at Connexions Cumbria, said: “This is the first time that we have organised an event such as this in school. We are very pleased and grateful for the contribution made by local businesses and organisations.

“Their attendance at this event ensured that the young people were able to find out more about the professions that were represented and discuss first hand with delegates about training routes, career structures and employment opportunities.

“Even at this early stage there has been a lot of positive feedback from the young people and I am sure that they will have gained a lot from the experience.”
