THE University of Cumbria has been rated as the best institution in the North West for graduate prospects. The university was given the award by national newspaper The Times’ influential Good University Guide 2009.

The university received a score of 72.8 per cent, placing it ahead of top universities such as Lancaster, which had 60.9 per cent, Liverpool with 70.7 per cent and Manchester that had a score of 67.4 per cent.

The results mean that a higher percentage of University of Cumbria graduates will be in graduate level employment or further study within six months of graduation than students from any other in the North West.

Professor Christopher Carr, University of Cumbria vice chancellor, said: “For us to achieve a result like this as a new university in our first year is an exceptional achievement.

“It shows that our students can be confident that they are gaining a qualification with us that will translate into a graduate level career.”

The university offers a wide range of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses which including the arts, teacher training, business, sport, health and social care, outdoor studies, nursing and information technology.
