Maryport man, 23, hurt in crash

A DRIVER was airlifted to hospital with back injuries after his car crashed on the west Cumbria coast road.

The 23-year-old, from Maryport, had to be cut free from his Renault Clio by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment.

He was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven by the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance.

The accident happened at about midday yesterday on the B5300, which runs between Maryport and Silloth, close to Dubmill Point.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident which closed the road for about 90 minutes.

The man’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Part-time fire crews from Maryport and Silloth took part in the rescue operation and then remained at the scene for an hour, making it safe.
