Workington Town have swooped in to re-sign two of their flying wingers Jamie Marshall and Stephen Dawes.
The duo have both signed one-year deals to keep them at Derwent Park for next season. This is a major boost to Town who have lost several key players over recent days.
Town boss Dave Rotheram described Marshall as ‘a pleasure to have at the club’ with the ex-Barrow flier full of enthusiasm to play for the side.
The 30-year-old opted to join Town in June this year because of limited opportunities at his home-town club Barrow. And he went right into Town’s first team for their home victory over Blackpool.
“Jamie has been great for us in the last half of the season. He is a fine clubman and can play wing and hooker equally as well,” said Rotheram.
“In his time with us he has scored four length of the field tries and his enthusiasm to play anywhere on the field makes him a pleasure to have at the club.”
The ex-Roose amateur turned pro with Barrow in 1997, and barring a short stint at Whitehaven, he had committed his career to the Raiders.
Dawes, still just 23, is the second three-quarter to commit his future to the club.
Town director, Les Smallwood was delighted that the former Salterbeck amateur, who joined Town in 2004, is staying at Derwent Park.
Smallwood said: “Stephen has improved as the year has gone on and is probably the most improved player at the club this season.
“We are delighted to have him back on board. His strength in defence, coupled with his knowledge of where the try line is makes him a great asset to us.”
