REDCAR Bears have joined Workington Comets and Berwick Bandits in the semi-final of the Young Shield.
The Bears recorded their biggest-ever away victory last night when they won 60-33 at Reading. New Australian sensation Ty Proctor scored 13 points for Redcar while former Comer Ulrich Ostergaard top-scored for the deflated Racers with 16 points.
That gave them a massive 112-73 victory on aggregate over the Racers who hardly got competitive on the night.
The fourth team into the Young Shield semi-finals will be settled this week, weather permitting.
Isle of Wight host Sheffield tonight with the second leg at Owlerton on Thursday.
Workington will have the pick of the opposition when the last team is decided and team manager Ian Thomas admits he has an open mind.
“I was surprised at Redcar’s big win at Reading and they have been coming into form recently. It’s not going to be an easy pick – even though we have first go. There are pros and cons with everyone of them,” he said.
Workington’s teenage second string Joe Haines was in Elite League action last night when he rode for Coventry at Belle Vue.
It was quite a night for the youngster as he top-scored for the Bees, scoring 14 points in a 50-40 defeat.
It was a vital win for the Aces as it kept them out of the relegation play-off.
