GRETNA lost only their second game of the season, to the same team who beat them last time around. Man of the Match: David Seggie
This cup tie, against higher league opposition, Edinburgh City, was a hard-fought battle, a very physical game with a number of yellow cards and Gretna being reduced to 10 men in the second half when Curtis Wood was sent off.
City started the game strongly and were rewarded when a free-kick was headed into his own net by the unfortunate David Seggie on 18 minutes.
The visitors continued to dominate but in the second half Gretna raised their game. However, against the run of play, Dougie Gair scored a wonderful goal on 52 minutes when his shot curled over John Jamieson and went in just under the crossbar.
Gretna’s Nikki White nearly pulled one back when he headed just over from three yards out, but Tony Nicholson finally scored after 64 minutes.
When Wood was harshly sent off in the 75th minute and Daniel Rayson hit the post, it looked like it was not going to be Gretna’s day. However, for the second week running, the border club made up their two goal deficit when Rayson finished in the 87th minute minutes remaining.
In the final minute the visitors won the game with a headed goal from Robbie Ross.
