Workington Reds' Lee Andrews sweats on operation date

Workington Reds defender Lee Andrews may have to play a waiting game over his knee operation.

The former Carlisle United man requires surgery on a knee cartilage problem that has been niggling away at him for weeks.

The original date was set for December 8 but that has been put back two days.

Andrews is waiting to hear if the PFA are going to pay for the operation and should hear from them today.

If they don’t pay for the operation then it could be into next year before he goes under the knife.

He said: “It does get a little painful sometimes and my knee swells up when I play. My operation has been put back and I will find out if the PFA will be paying for it.

“If they aren’t then the operation could be put back until January.

“It doesn’t hurt me as such but I know there is a problem. I just want it sorted so I can give it my best for Workington.”

Andrews sat out last night’s 7-1 thumping of Frizington White Star in the Cumberland Cup but will be available for selection on Saturday.

Midfielder Craig Johnston also missed the game through suspension but goals from Kyle May, Dan Robinson, two for Anthony Wright and a hat-trick for Gareth Arnison wrapped up the tie.
