Kingstown hit brave Langwathby for six

WITH sub-freezing temperatures and blistering chills, both teams managed to play the fixture and brave the elements.

The game took ten minutes to spring into action, when Nick Christie opened the scoring from 10 yards out, despite Langwathby’s keeper getting both hands on the ball.

A quick-fire double from Kingstown put the game beyond Langwathby. Christie again proved a handful, doubling Kingstown’s lead after a sweeping counter attack and Louis Moore showed his ability with an outstanding first-time volley which powered into the back of the net.

The 3-0 score however was an injustice to Langwathby’s ability, as they defended admirably, with only a matter of sublime finishing knocking them down.

The Eden side then showed what they were worth during the opening spell of the second-half, as they enjoyed a long spell of possession and attacking play. Yet, a ‘signature’ Kingstown counter attack caught the opposition off guard, when Carl Jessamine finishing confidently.

Langwathby responded remarkably and forced Kingstown keeper Lee Jessamine into making a magnificent save.

Jessamine parried a fierce Jamie Street shot to the feet of Adam Cutting, who smashed the ball towards the gaping net. However, Jessamine, stranded from the initial save, somehow managed to get his fingertips on the ball, tipping it onto the crossbar.

The move still hadn’t broke down. With the ball coming off the crossbar, it appeared that one of three Langwathby players were going to score, but Jessamine snatched the ball seconds before an almost certain goal.

Substitute Matthe Vickers, only on the pitch for a matter of seconds, put a stop to Langwathby’s pressure, as he scored Kingstown’s fifth.

Eventually, Langwathby grabbed their deserved goal. A cross from the left concluded in a six-man goal-mouth scramble, where Jamie Street poked the ball over the line. It was too late in the game though for Langwathby to construct a comeback, and Kingstown had the final say as Will Hodgson scored, making the final scoreline 6-1.

Langwathby and Kingstown showed commitment and enthusiasm during the game, playing in conditions which would have put many professionals off.

Praise must go to the spectators and players, and also the managers – Jim Jessamine and Paul Fell for Kingstown and Nigel Watchman and Tim Cutting for Langwathby.
