The game was end to end from start to finish and both teams created a host of shooting opportunities. The fact that Hesket won 5-1 was due to brilliant finishing and a fine goalkeeping performance from Aaron Johnston.

Hesket took an early lead when Mark Lucas-Winspear scored a brilliant goal.

Denton Holme were on the attack when James Williamson won a tackle inside his own half. Williamson then passed to Niall Clifford who gave the ball to Lucas-Winspear.

The Hesket midfield player beat his man before hitting a right-foot cross shot into the far top corner of the net.

Hesket continued on the attack, but determined tackling from Luke English and Robbie Graham kept them at bay until Joe Usher dribbled through the defence to score with a low right-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Hesket spelt danger when on the attack but good tackling from Heidi Smith and Mark Arminger made sure Usher did not add to the Hesket goal tally.

The visitors attacked through Richie Scott but Johnston saved his shot before Hesket went to the other end where Lucas-Winspear’s low centre was saved by Nathan Cleminson in the Denton Holme goal. Cleminson made a great save from Usher before Lucas-Winspear shot over the bar.

Denton Holme were determined to score but Scott was halted by a tackle from Clifford. The visitors continued on the offensive and English pulled a goal back after collecting an exquisite chip from Ryan Graham to run clear and beat Johnston from close range. Usher then re-dressed the balance when he raced clear to make it 3-1, with a right-foot shot on the stroke of half-time.

The Denton Holme players were determined to make a match of it and Jack Mavir had to step in to break up a promising move which involved Scott and Robbie Graham. Scott then had a shot saved by Johnston.

Hesket were always dangerous on the break and Cleminson saved from Usher after the lively striker beat his man before getting in a shot.

Armiger made a good tackle to stop Usher but the respite was only temporary as the Hesket captain skipped his way through the defence to score his hat-trick and give his team a 4-1 advantage.

There was no lack of effort from the Denton Holme players and Williamson had to step in to break up a promising move which involved Robbie Graham, English and Scott. Johnston made a save from Scott at the expense of a corner Before Max Norman conceded another when he turned Robbie Graham’s kick behind his own goal.

With four minutes remaining Hesket went nap when Usher and Lucas-Winspear combined with Usher supplying the pass for Lucas-Winspear to add the finish.

Scott did his utmost to grab a goal but he was twice thwarted by Johnston after, a solo dribble and then a shot, following a good pass from Smith.
