Former Workington Reds favourite Matthew Berkeley has joined his FOURTH club of the season this week following his departure from Borough Park in the summer.

The 21-year-old who will be remembered best by the Popularside fans for his heroics in Reds’ FA Cup campaign last season when they qualified for the first round proper for the first time in 25 years.

League Two side Bury were the opponents that day and Berkeley scored to bring the non-league side level if only for a brief time.

Unfortunately his goal from the edge of the Shakers penalty box was not enough to stop the club and its 594 fans, who made the journey down from West Cumbria, leaving empty handed.

Berkeley left Workington in the summer because the driving commitments from Manchester got to much for him.

This move has led to a 258 mile trip for the striker to find a club that he is happy at.

Since leaving Reds the St Kitts and Nevis international joined fellow Blue Square North side Droylsden, but dropped down a league just a month later to sign for Leigh Genesis.

Another short stop saw him leave the cash-however,strapped club after just three months, and he dropped another division for Mossley AFC who ply their trade in the Northern Premier League Division One North.

And finally this week, after playing just four games for the Greater Manchester based he club he completed a move to Hyde United.

This hitman has now played for seven clubs during his four year playing career.
