High Street gloom for Workington model

A West Cumbrian woman will continue modelling in the new year despite not winning a national magazine competition.

Emma Heron, 21, of Seaton, was chosen out of more than 14,000 girls to appear in men’s magazine FHM’s list of 100 top High Street Honeys, which was published last month.

But the bubbly fitness instructor failed to secure enough public votes to get through to the top 10, which would have seen her in the running to collect £10,000 and a modelling contract.

She said: “I can’t complain because I was one of 100 chosen from 14,000 who applied. That is something in itself.

“I was really happy to make the top 100.

“I have been doing promotion modelling for two years and thought I should give it a go.

“I know now it is a lot to do with networking.

“From talking to other girls who got through they said they added everyone in their Facebook address book and got them to vote for them.

“It has not put me off entering again and I will be prepared for next year’s competition.”

Emma has previously been a featured in car magazine Soft and Modified and FHM. She said she hopes to do more commercial modelling.

“The competition has given me a confidence boost and last week I did a photoshoot for my portfolio,” she said.

“I am looking forward to doing more modelling in the New Year. I did a lot of promotional jobs in the summer, but I will be looking at doing more commercial shoots in the future.”

Emma said she not only loves modelling, she has been a major fixture on Workington’s dance scene for the last year.

She was the first female DJ to score a permanent slot on the Workington club circuit. Going under the stage name of DJ Emma Baby, she could be seen every Friday night mixing music and raising eyebrows with her colourful outfits.

Although she has now given up her DJ-ing she is still a regular dancer at the town’s Vine Bar, and also a fitness instructor at Workington’s sports centre.
