Night out for girls

As every woman worth her (fantasy) Manolo Blahniks knows, Sex and the City is a sure fire way to banish those winter blues.
The TV programme, which ran for six series and followed the lives and loves of sassy New Yorkers – columnist Carrie, PR guru Samantha, lawyer Miranda and art dealer Charlotte – was the perfect form of escapism.
The show made its mark with frank dialogue and believable characters (albeit living dream lives in Manhattan), broke taboos with an honest look at sex and relationships, and offered a feast for the eyes with countless designer outfits and shoes.
For all the loyal fans, the feature film was a long time coming by the time it was released last year, four years after the TV series ended.
The film catches up with the four women, who are now in their forties (with Samantha approaching 50) and have all taken the next steps in their relationships.
Samantha pines for New York from her new base in Los Angeles with lover Smith Jerrod, Charlotte paints a picture of domestic bliss with husband Harry and adopted daughter Lily, while Miranda is still married to Steve and living in Brooklyn. Carrie, meanwhile, is set to marry long term, on/off paramour Mr Big.
This being Sex and the City, not everything goes according to plan, and the audience will enjoy plenty of drama, laughter, tears, and eye-popping couture along the way.
Rachel Suddart from Rosehill Theatre says: “This is the perfect film for a night out with the girls and even if you’ve got the dvd at home, it’s always worth seeing this again on the big screen. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll definitely covet the outfits.
“As always, there’ll be no trailers and there is ample free car parking at the venue. And in true Sex and the City style, there’ll be Cosmopolitans served in the bar before and after the show on the Wednesday night.”
Rosehill Theatre is screening Sex and the City on January 20 and 21 at 7.30pm, with an extra matinee performance at 1.30pm on the Wednesday.
Tickets are £4.50, £4 concessions and £3.50 for the matinee. The evening screening on Wednesday costs £6.50 and includes a free Cosmopolitan (and a non-alcoholic version is available). Call the box office on 01946 692422 for tickets.
