Reds skipper May crocked

WORKINGTON Reds have suffered a major blow in the final run-in to the Blue Square North season.
Skipper Kyle May, player of the year for the last two seasons, is unlikely to play a part in any of the final 12 league games.
He was already out tomorrow night in any case, serving the second of a two match suspension, but a training ground knee injury will prove more costly.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “He has been to see Neil Dalton at Carlisle United and he has told him it looks like medial ligament damage, which in effect will mean his season is over.
“That’s a big blow because we all know Kyle is Workington through-and-through, but everyone now has to stand up and be counted and compensate for the loss.”
Despite being suspended, and injured, May travelled with the squad to Stalybridge on Saturday to support the team. Jonny Wright, who was also sitting out a one match ban travelled with the party as well.
Reds have now won only once in 12 games – five points out of a possible 30 in the League.
Tomorrow night they entertain Hyde United who are seventh in the table and since Christmas have lost their way – falling from top spot.
Workington suffered their fourth straight defeat – 3-0 – at Stalybridge on Saturday, but have the next three games all at Borough Park – two of them against teams currently in the relegation zone, Hinckley on Saturday and Vauxhall Motors on Easter Saturday.
After the defeat at Stalybridge, Edmondson felt his side had been unlucky to finish on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline.
“We were under a bit of pressure in the first half but coped well enough when the only goal was a very dubious penalty.
“Then in the second half I thought we were the better side and were a bit unlucky not to have at least got back level.
“Unfortunately we didn’t defend properly late on and they scored two goals which rather put an unjust look to the scoreline,” said Edmondson.
