Injuries cost us admits Town coach after late try agony

WORKINGTON Town coach Dave Rotheram was philosophical after watching his side lose out in the last play of the game at Keighley Cougars.
Town seemed to have the game in the bag at 22-14 but the hosts hit back with a try before Wayne Sutcliffe touched down at the death.
Rotheram had travelled without the services of Mark McCully, Iain Marsh, Jamie Beaumont and Taani Lavulavu, and told News & Star Sport: “Just look at the scoreboard. A tight game like that, we could have won.
“I’m not knocking the effort of our boys today in a game we lost on the last play of the game. But we had two half-backs on the bench and with a full squad we could have won that game.
“We should have just slowed it down a bit near the end when eight points up and shouldn’t have taken the risks that we did. We had plenty of opportunities and can build on that.
“It was a good game for a dead rubber but it was a chance for the lads to get some win money and stake their claim for Friday.”
Rotheram now has to pick his side up for the National League Two opener against Barrow Raiders at Derwent Park on Friday (3pm).
The result saw Town pick up their third bonus point of the competition but finish bottom of the Northern Rail group.
They are still to beat a professional side this season, their only win being against amateurs Wigan St Pat’s in the third round of the Challenge Cup.
