‘La’al’ festival that is growing bigger

A LITTLE Cumbrian theatre festival is getting bigger as it enters its third year with, for the first time, main stage performances.

Keswick’s famous musical stones are being immortalised on stage

Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake presents La'al Fest from Thursday, April 17 until Saturday, April 19. It will feature performances from young people and community groups from around Cumbria both in the Studio and in the theatre's Main House. There will be a total of 12 performances from 12 groups over 3 nights.

The varied programme includes performances from local schools; with Keswick School presenting Spark a piece that follows a journey around the town and down to the lake. Shakespeare is then tackled as Theatre by the Lake's Young Apprentices and The Brewery's new company of young actors present challenging and exciting new versions of classic plays in three separate performances.

A live music show called The Musical Stonemason, A Cumbrian Wayang is a story of the famous musical stones of Skiddaw founded by Joseph Richardson.

Tina Ewing, co-ordinator of La'al Fest said: “I am delighted to be able to offer more young performers and groups even more opportunities to perform in their regional professional theatre. I'm so excited that the festival has now expanded to include performances in the Main House.”

There is also live music in the newly refurbished Stalls Bar before and after each evening performance.
