Catherine’s living the dream

It was a nervous moment as Catherine Rogers looked at the three shortlisted dresses as they were modelled on the catwalk at the Live the Dream Wedding Event.
The wait to find out which dress she would wear on her wedding day was about to come to an end.
As winner of the Cumbrian Weddings’ competition to find the most romantic proposal, Catherine had been to three local dress shops to choose her three favourite dresses and then it was left to readers to make the final choice for her.
Catherine watched the final catwalk show at the event on Sunday, March 30 with fiancé Jonathan May, sister and bridesmaid Rebecca and mother Sheena and then was invited on stage to open the envelope containing the result.
The prize dress was revealed to be a pure silk ivory dress from I Do in Cockermouth.
It is a strapless Ian Stewart gown, sprinkled with small crystals and diamantes with a bow and buttons on the back.
Catherine, a marketing assistant at Tullie House, is thrilled with the dress.
She said: “I was really nervous, but I am so pleased with the dress. I am sure Jonathan will love it too.”
Louise Mounsey, owner of I Do, said: “It is fantastic that the public have chosen our dress. Catherine is thrilled and I am delighted and excited for her.
“She looks stunning in it.”
Catherine and Jonathan, who live in Welton near Dalston, will be getting married on May 30 next year at St Bega’s Church, Bassenthwaite with a reception at the nearby Castle Inn.
Catherine’s mum Sheena said: “I think she is relieved to finally know which dress she will be wearing. Both Catherine and Jonathan have been really anxious.”
The couple, who met through work, impressed the judges with their tale of an emotional proposal while visiting the ancient Spanish hilltop town of Altea last September.
Twenty-six-year-old Catherine said: “Jonathan had said before we went that he wanted to buy me some jewellery for our second anniversary and Altea is famous for its jewellery.”
They had a romantic meal to celebrate their anniversary and then walked up a narrow cobbled street that opened out into a square with a view over the coast.
Jonathan, 33, who works for Carlisle City Council, bought Catherine a ring and necklace as an anniversary present.
She said: “We then went to look at the view, feeling really restful as we were in such a beautiful place.
“We sat down on the steps of a church which had a blue-domed roof with stars on it.
“We sat there holding hands and were saying how we wished we could just sit there all night when Jonathan got down on one knee and proposed to me.
“It was a beautiful moment; I said yes and we shed a few tears together.”
