Sign of what students get up to

SOME say that students have a one-track mind. Well, Reiver must report that Newton Rigg agricultural college near Penrith, which is now part of the University of Cumbria, is doing little to dispel the suspicion that students are obsessed with sex.
In fact, it could be argued that the college is positively encouraging such smuttiness.
A reader has sent me a photograph of a sign in a Newton Rigg corridor. This sign points to Aquatic Room, Reptile Room, Aviary Room, and, intriguingly, Dirty Lecture Theatre and Clean Lecture Theatre.
Most neutral observers would surely speculate that the Dirty Lecture Theatre is likely to be more popular than its clean counterpart. But what kind of Dirty Lectures are held there?
Reiver’s enquiries to Newton Rigg led to the suggestion that the strangely named theatres may be connected to the college’s animal academy, although no one from the academy has yet been available to grunt, squawk or bark an explanation.
Perhaps it is unfair to suggest that students have a one-track mind.
Surely that should be a four-track mind, as alcohol, sleep and soap operas also tend to figure prominently in their lives.
