DURING the run-up the local elections, I opened my door to a guy who without formal introduction or visible identity, asked me the question: “Will you be voting for the XXX candidate in the forthcoming local election?”ZERO tolerance “New York style” is coming to our nation’s capital and to a street near you.MAY I correct two points in your ‘Society’ feature (News & Star, May 8)?

IS THE Lake District safe in the hands of the National Park Authority?REGARDING the story about the disabled lady who fell asleep in her car and was given a ticket by a traffic warden because her disability badge was displayed upside down (News & Star, May 6).IN 1999 my wife, granddaughter and myself embarked on a project during which we visited Carlisle to see the Botchergate Post Office – the site of the first roadside post box in mainland Britain. Since then, we have tried to obtain a first-day cover (FDC) issued on August 9 1990 in celebration of this event, but without any luck.MAY I, through your columns, thank those who voted for me in Belah Ward during the recent elections for Carlisle City Council. IS NEW Labour’s goose finally cooked?

ROGER Liddle, chairman of Cumbria Vision, has expressed concern about the criticism in the editorial of the News & Star (April 18), that the agricultural aspect of economic life in Cumbria had been overlooked in the new Cumbria Vision strategy set out at its Economic Summit 2008 conference.WHY is the general public berated for wasting energy and for failing to spend in the High Street? IN REPLY to the OAP’s tax plight as mentioned in the News & Star (May 2), I have to keep reminding myself that a Labour Government is in power.
