Register for work experience

Cumbrian Newspapers is happy to provide pupils and students with work experience within its editorial department.

It offers placements to local pupils aged 15 and older who will get the chance to shadow reporters and photographers during their working day, assist journalists with their research, write stories for the News & Star and The Cumberland News and help out with jobs around the office.

College students and graduates can take advantage of a more flexible approach to work experience to help our staff with special projects such as newspaper supplements or writing material for our website. They will also work closely with reporters and should get plenty of their material published.

We also offer work placements to students at journalism courses who will be given a wide range of stories and features to write. We expect journalism students to contribute ideas while they are with the News & Star. In return they will receive feedback and guidance on their work from experienced journalists.

We have a lot of requests for work experience and we are often fully booked, particularly during the end of the school year. If you have any questions about work experience email Ann Jones or if you would like to request work experience please fill in this form:
