Aaran Taylor signs one-year deal with Workington Reds

“The best Conference North goalkeeper” is how Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson described Aaran Taylor after the shot stopper signed a one-year contract.

Taylor quit Borough Park for a trial with League One side Carlisle United, but after being released by Greg Abbott, returned to training with Edmondson’s men.

The 25-year-old agreed and signed on the dotted line at training last night.

Edmondson said: “To have Aaran back is great news. He’s the best goalkeeper in the league and offers so much to this team.

“Aaran needed to go to Carlisle, and it’s disappointing from his point of view that it didn’t work out.

“But for us, with the number of injuries we’ve amassed, it’s fantastic to have a player of this calibre rejoin the squad.”

Taylor will be joined in the team that faces Kendal Town tomorrow by ex-Newcastle and Carlisle winger Martin Brittain.

The midfielder joined Workington for training for the first time last night and impressed Edmondson, who said: “Martin is obviously a good player and comes to us with a good pedigree.

“His record at all levels is impressive but most importantly he can deliver quality crosses into the box.

“We are a team that sometimes lacks that final ball and Martin will definitely help us improve.

“In training he looked sharp. He was lively, has a good first touch and showed his quality even in a short period.”

The 27-year-old is not expected to be the only new name in the squad that travels to Parkside (3pm).

Former trialist Callam Hassan is now training with Championship new boys Huddersfield Town.

The striker played just once in the 3-0 defeat to Barrow in the first leg of the Chas Kendall Trophy. Edmondson had hoped to bring the 6ft 4in striker back to Borough Park but will have to wait to find out if the ex-Hartlepool product has a future with Simon Grayson’s side.
