Pathetic not to have a road bridge for Workington

I HAVE 22 years service in the army and have seen many bridges built in just a few hours and driven over them in heavy tracked and wheeled vehicles.

We need a start date for a new bridge

I REFER to the headline “Don’t know where don’t know when, says county” (Times & Star, December 4).

We need a road bridge now

THE opening of the temporary footbridge is an excellent start to rebuilding our community.

Put the bankers' bonuses into rebuilding West Cumbria

THE extraordinary costs of rebuilding West Cumbria’s shattered infrastructure, coming as it does on top of the plan to support the development of an Energy Coast, should be financed by diverting the planned bonuses for bankers to the area.

Please sort out West Cumbria's traffic system

IN ALL the talk of recovery from the catastrophic floods there seems little discussion concerning the gridlock which passes for West Cumbria’s traffic system.

Mitchell's is a fine example of Cockermouth support

REGARDING the work by Mitchell’s Auction Co Ltd in helping Cockermouth traders to restart their flood damaged businesses, I wish to put the record straight following receipt by me of unfounded allegations from badly informed sources.

Nothing should happen at Derwent Forest without consultation

FURTHER to John Ardron’s letter (Times & Star, November 20), at the most recent meeting of the Broughton Community Council which, incidentally, John Ardron did not attend (so how does he know what I did or did not say?), the subject of Derwent Forest and its future was not on the agenda, and neither was I invited to comment on that subject.

Parking hike could be start of a vicious circle

AT THE risk of embarrassing friends and working colleagues, I must agree with Richard James’s letter suggesting that staff and councillors should pay the same rates for parking as the rest of us (Times & Star, November 20).

We should not forget the enormous power of water

THE devastating floods should remind us of the enormous power of water; power that has been the principal source of industrial energy over 2,000 years.
