Boss Edmondson questions desire of Workington Reds players

Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson has questioned his side’s desire after the disappointing 1-1 draw with bottom side Hinckley United.

Carl Heggs’ side have been the league’s whipping boys, conceding five or more goals on nine occasions this season, and cast adrift at the foot of the Blue Square Bet North.

Hinckley have just three points, having endured a torrid season both on and off the pitch and following the great draw with Chester, Edmondson expected more from his side.

“I didn’t want to settle for a point,” he said. “I wanted all three. It was always going to come down to the team that wanted it more, and the disappointing thing for me was too many of the Hinckley team were hungrier.

“Hinckley put us under pressure, and if we’re honest, they deserve credit. We got out of jail by going into the break in front.”

Striker Jordan Connerton was back in training before the match. It is the first time he has been spotted since November. And Aaran Taylor, who broke his wrist in December, is also close to a return.

The goalkeeper has been expertly replaced by Sunderland apprentice Joel Dixon.

Edmondson said: “Joel has had three games, and been fantastic. There is no pressure on him. He’s come in, done well, and his deal can continue to roll until either club looks to finish it.”
