Cumbrian petrol stations caught short-changing drivers

Spot-checks are being carried out at petrol stations across Cumbria to ensure drivers aren’t being short-changed when filling up.

Have your say

poinless in telling us if you wont state who is doing it and probly nothing will get done anyway

I have had this twice in Carlisle where I have put fuel into the car only to still be on empty once I've drove off. Didn't go back as didn't think it would be possible for it to happen. Though on the other hand I was in asda last week and got more than expected when the guage jumped up.

What a pointless story! is this the best you can do! no name and shame, nothing, what a waste of space!

Rob, this is not part and parcel of life (unless your name actually matches your character?!) "Weights and Measures" ... they should be named and brought to book for what is criminal activity. It's time for some good investigative reporting as this practice will undoubtedly be widespread. Same as gluing a couple of 2p pieces to the inside of optics behind bars, for every single "measure" served every 10th is pure profit to the dishonest bar manager (if, of course, there was ever such a thing). If you think you are buying a litre, and are buying .9 of a litre, imagine the profits to the fuel stations, and the loss of revenue to the Government. Name and shame these garages then we can boycott them.

Trading Standards have been testing petrol pumps as part of their weights and measures remit for years so this is nothing new!! The article also gives the impression that fuel suppliers are deliberately ripping off customers by short measuring when I bet its faulty machinery that is really the cause. Have no problem with Trading Standards wanting to raise their profile as they do a some good work, just a shame this article could be misleading.

This story seems a little pointless if we're not going to be told which garages are ripping off customers. Also there seems some suggestion that this is an 'opt-in' scheme? Wrongdoers are not likely to opt-in!

Part and parcel of life - the government's been short-changing us taxpayers for years.........

Only half a story unless you disclose which sites were dispensing incorrect measures or announce whether legal proceedings are accompanying this investigation.
