A rescue operation was launched this morning after a dog and its owner got stranded at the bottom of cliffs.
Firefighters came to their aid after they got stuck on a bank near the promenade in Maryport just after 5.30am.
The dog had initially found itself in difficulty, prompting its male owner to climb down to rescue it.
However they both became stuck. The owner was quickly helped to safety but the dog remained stranded.
One fire crew from Workington, two from Maryport and the area’s major rescue vehicle attended the scene.
They used a ladder to get to the dog and were able to carry it to safety. The unhurt pet was reunited with its owner, who had also injured himself trying to get down to the dog.
An ambulance attended but the man’s injuries were not serious.
