Describe Cumbria in three words.
Inspiring. Innovative. Home
Which stereotypes about Cumbria would you say were wrong?
It’s not as isolated as people might assume. We have different transport options including rail links on the coastal and West Coast Main Line.
What is your favourite place in Cumbria to go for a night or day out?
I used to go to Hen Beck at Wath Brow with my granddad and this was a beautiful place to visit.
What is your favourite Cumbrian meal?
A good Cumbrian tatie pot. My mum’s version is fantastic. What’s better than tender lamb, crispy potatoes and some black pudding. All served with a local beer!
What and where are your favourite shops and tourist attractions in Cumbria?
I’m trying not to be parochial here, but the Beacon in Whitehaven is brilliant.
Lots of people see Copeland as an industrial area, but it is not recognised as much for its heritage and tourism, all of his can be seen at the Beacon. The area is home to Britain’s highest mountain, two lakes and much more.
If you were recommending Cumbria to a friend, where would you tell them to go, what would you tell them to do?
No friend of mine would only visit for a day as they know there is so much more to see or do. In Copeland we have a rugby team, some fantastic theatre at Rosehill, beautiful attractions and much more.
What is your best Cumbrian memory?
Going to the beach at either Coulderton or Nethertown with the family for a day out – and appreciating the Cumbrian weather and Cumbrian tranquility.
