Help in west Cumbria has been fabulous, says Scotland RL coach

Dave Rotheram put his 20-man Scotland squad through their paces at Derwent Park yesterday with Workington Town’s Brett Carter and Whitehaven’s new recruit Paul Jackson looking to press their international claims.

The Bravehearts, who open their Alitalia Cup campaign against Ireland in Edinburgh this weekend, are spending a few days in west Cumbria, where they will be based for next year’s World Cup.

“The main purpose of this week is to familiarise ourselves with west Cumbria ahead of the World Cup,” said Rotheram, the ex-Haven and Town boss.

“And we want our service providers to get an understanding of what it’s about, hosting an international team. The help we’ve already had from people has been fabulous. They can’t do enough for us.”

The squad will train today and tomorrow at Whitehaven’s Cumbria Sports Academy, their training base for next year’s World Cup.
