THE diddy league season got under way with the young Workington swimmers holding their own against some very strong opposition.
The 10yr boys’ relay team -Matthew Ivison, Harvey Robinson, Thomas Milburn, Elliott Routledge, Jack Earl and Ben Lyall-Smith - were unbeaten in all five relay events.
Ivison and Milburn then went on to take maximum points in the 50m butterfly and backstroke races.
Eleven-year-old Paige Jackson won the 50m back and was second in the 50m fly in a new club record.
The 9yr boys team - Elliot Routledge, Keiran Watson, Jack Law and Charlie Goodwin - were just pipped into second in the freestyle and medley events while the girls team - Amie Ivison, Sophie Little, Casey Sowerby and Annalise Younghusband - finished third.
More valuable points were gained by the 11yr breaststroke teams - Paige Jackson, Taylor Nicholson, Charlotte Williamson, Courtney Watson, James Porthouse, Ben Farnworth, Jamie Edmondson and Chris Milligan - who both finished second.
Hannah Haney and Ashleigh Clark joined Jackson, Williamson and Watson in the free and medley relays picking up more second place points.
The 11yr boys picked up another second when Ciaran Dickinson replaced Farnworth in the backstroke event.
Jessica Sibbald, Angel Clark and Lucy Fleming joined Nicholson in the 10yr medley picking up more valuable points.
It was a very closely-fought gala with a strong City of Carlisle team coming out on top.
The final points were City of Carlise 163, Copeland 152, Workington 151, Carlisle Water Polo 97 and Cockermouth 70.
