Shifting wind

THURSDAY evening sailing on Bassenthwaite Lake continued to be exciting with shifty wind around the course.
This did not deter any of the sailors and there was a good fleet sailing again, though for some it was more like capsize training.
Mike Cowan continues to challenge in the vario and despite a capsize finished first overall.
Ginge and Jose Hodgkins were second and lead the series overall but that won’t last with so many races to come.
The contrasting weekend weather made for spectacular racing - watching from the clubhouse, that is.
Bassenthwaite hosted the Catapult Association National Championship with two days of strong wind all the visitors enjoyed challenging racing.
The bank holiday arrived very sunny and no wind so racing was abandoned for the visitors.
The competition was won by Roger Hodgkinson from Herne Bay Sailing club.
The club sailors had a fantastic weekend of racing and capsizing - those not brave enough had a weekend of entertainment as the wind continued to make sure everyone had some capsize training.
Saturday's BAAF plate included a race which was hard even for the very good sailors. Mike Moore and Kayla Sheard won. Mark Somerville from Carlisle is leading the series.
Sunday and Monday racing for the May Bank Trophy providing interesting racing, or floating as the wind died totally for Monday. Somerville continued his winning ways to win the series overall.
