Over 20 senior and junior archers from around the county took part, some using the competition as practice for the Junior National Championships at Lilleshall in July.

Sunday’s event was held in beautiful sunshine and even the thunder and lighting managed to move around the field.

Lady Paramount was Sheena Van den Bossche and judging duties were performed by Chris Battersby and Sandra Vives Lynch.

Cockermouth archers did very well in the overall results with Andy Chappell, of Great Broughton, winning the senior gentlemen Metric I recurve.

Cameron Angus, of Padshaw, won the junior boy U14 Metric III longbow group.

McKenzie Jenkin, of Cockermouth, won the junior boy U12 Metric IV recurve group.

Charles Van den Bossche, of Brigham, won the junior boy U12 Metric V barebow group.

Daniel Vives Lynch, of Gilgarran, won the junior boy U9 Metric V barebow group.

In total six county records were set. Two of these by junior members from Cockermouth Company of Archers.

Angus, shooting the Metric III with the longbow, shot a third class score and set a new county record of 268 for a junior boy U14.

Jenkin, shooting the Metric IV with a recurve bow, shot a junior bowman score and set a new county record of 1,102 for a junior boy U12.

The best gold at the longest distance was presented to Andy Chappell, who did it in style by hitting the x, which marks the exact centre of the target.

The Lady Paramount prize was presented to Daniel Vives Lynch for the most hits in the three ring and junior club novice awards were presented to Johnathan Mills and Matthew Shepherd for completing their first major shoot.

The next local competition will be the company’s invitation longbow shoot on July 5 at Grasmoor Sports Centre.
