WORKINGTON brothers Kristian and Callum Moffat were the heroes in a massive win for the North Lancashire and Cumbria League side in an Inter-League Cup group game.
The pair were the mainstays of a superb recovery that brought victory over Lancashire County League, the cup winners in 2006 and last year.
At Furness Park, Lancashire got away to an excellent start and closed on 256-6.
There was excellent bowling figures for Dalton’s John Bell (2-31) and Keswick skipper Imran Khan (2-37) in their nine overs each.
In NLC’s reply Ryan Brown was soon out and when Stuart Swallow was run out a big re-building was necessary.
Khan (25) and Mark Daly (38) began the fight back and when the Moffat got together hopes of winning were really rekindled.
Kristian went caught behind after making an excellent 59.
Two further wickets fell cheaply but, ably assisted by John Bell (19no), Callum (74n0) saw the local NLC side to victory in the final over.
Callum was rightly awarded the man of match award.
In the U18 Inter-League Cup the NLC played away at Daisy Hill against Bolton Association.
Batting first NLC got a horrible start and after 10 overs were 25-3.
Alex Atkinson and Will Chapples started a slow recovery but when Atkinson was unlucky to be given run out the score was 5-4.
Penrith’s Ben Littleton batted brilliantly from the start and this persuaded Chapples to start playing shots and they had put on 71 when Chapples was out for 41.
Overs were now running out but the lower order batsmen gave good support to Littleton who went lbw for 47. NLC closed on 190-9.
Hawcoat’s Danny White and Seascales’ Danny Lee bowled an excellent spell and the opposition was 24-3 and 43-4 when Greg Barnes, the Cockermouth spinner, struck in his second over.
Bolton Association’s then began an excellent innings but two more wickets went down -one to Barnes - and the Association was 87-6.
But from there the Association held firm and reached 193-6 with an over to spare.
