The victory by 190-runs was the club’s biggest ever league win as they completed a demolition job on their south Cumbrian visitors.

For Keswick’s Sri Lankan professional Dinuk Hettiarachchi it was a triple celebration. Not only had he taken a hat-trick to help Keswick towards their record success, but his wife had given birth to a baby daughter back in Sri Lanka.

He finished with 4-11 from his eight overs of leg-break bowling which eventually saw Haverigg dismissed for 52.

The early damage had been done by 20-year-old seamer Stuart Dowson who took for 6-23.

Earlier Keswick had reached 242-7 in their allotted overs when they had been put into bat.

The second wicket partnership between Imran Khan (92) and Darren Collin (59) was worth 85. Haverigg professional Sridharan Sriram took 5-72 and he also top-scored for them with 21.

Premier leaders Workington won an exciting game at Millom by two wickets to stay out in front.

They invited Millom to bat first and they seemed to be in trouble when opening bowler Matthew Gorley suffered a leg injury seven overs.

Elsroy Powell (43) and Richard Arnold (46) figured in the best stand of the innings as they put on 60. Arnold was actually dropped before he had scored.

They closed on 207-7 with Simon James (3-36) the leading Workington bowler.

Workington didn’t start well and after 12 overs were 42-4 before a fifth-wicket stand of 107 put them back in the contest.

James (34) went and was followed quickly by Simon Beare (72) and at 154-67 the game was back in the melting pot.

But Gorley came out to bat with a runner and figured in a match-winning stand of 50 with his skipper Steven Benson to push Workington to the edge of victory.

Although Benson went for 15 and Martyn Turner quickly followed without scoring, Gorley (25no) and Kyle Galea (4no) saw Workington home with two overs and two wickets to spare.

Cockermouth suffered a set back at Sandair where they were beaten by Penrith, going under by seven wickets.

Gareth White top-scored with 46 for Cockermouth when they could only manage 124. The wickets were shared around with John Iniff the best on 3-32.

Professional Upul Fernando (41) and opener Nick Burns (30) saw to it that Penrith reached 125-3 without too many concerns.

Keswick’s former professional Majid Jahangir was in good form for Furness as he scored an unbeaten 104 at Carlisle which helped the south Cumbrians to a nine-wicket win.

He dominated the winning reply of 160-1 after Carlisle had been restricted to 157-8.

Opener Marc Brown had played a similar role for the home side with 71 but lacked any support until a late surge by the ninth-wicket pair of Simon Plevin (24no) and Mike Trickett (20no).

Cleator took 16 points from their draw with Copeland rivals Whitehaven at the Playground.

Paul Duffett was unbeaten on 97 when Cleator made 215-4 batting first. Robert Mason also chipped in with 42.

Whitehaven’s professional Saliva Saman held his side together with an important unbeaten 61 with most support from opener Eddie Birkett (32) as they closed on 169-7 to earn seven points.

Bottom side Duddon SC were beaten again, going down to Dalton after being bowled-out for 76.

They made a gritty effort to hit back but Dalton won on 80-6 with Wiann Van Zyl top-scoring on 36 after producing the best bowling figures of 3-28.

Wigton won a tight game at Lanercost in division one by three wickets after bowling out the home side for 157.

Bobby Sherlock scored 72 not out in a winning total of 158-7. David Ferguson (37) and Scott Simpson (33) had top-scored for Lanercost with Glen Liddle taking 3-39. Imran Malik took 3-31.

Rivals Kirkby had a comfortable win after bowling out Keswick Seconds for 63. Mark Etchells took 4-12 and they went on to win by seven wickets.

Workington Seconds fared only slightly better as they were bowled out for 95 at Ulverston and did manage to take six wickets before the home side achieved their victory target.

Cleator Seconds did just enough to earn a draw at home to Appleby after they had been asked to chase 220-9.

Tillakaratne Sampath and Mark Ousby each scored 50 with veteran Alan Wishart taking 3-29. Son Stephen Wishart top-scored with 72 when Cleator replied with 150-9.

Egremont had a good win at Hawcoat Park after they had dismissed the home side for 112 with Craig Roberts taking 4-23 and Richard Booth finishing with 3-45.

The West Cumbrians lost early wickets but Steve Hodgson (29no) and Ron Looney (27no) saw them through to a five-wicket win.

In the other game Lindal Moor beat Vickerstown by eight wickets. Colin Knight took 3-12 when Vickerstown were bowled out for 98 and then hit 37 in the response of 101-2.
