Windscale rise to the challenge

WINDSCALE Club, Seascale have won the Kirkland Carpets West Allerdale & Copeland Association Challenge Vase with a cup final victory over Isel.

Lee Fleet (32ret), Paul Knott (32ret), Mark Farries (30 ret), Adam Brown (27) and Daniel Lee (30ret) all contributed to Windscale’s winning total of 204-8, restricted by the bowling of John McGuffie, who took 2-23.

Isel managed 74-9 in reply, with 25 from Alan Brown and a retired 30 from Matthew Gate.

Steve Brown Snr took

2-6 for Windscale, and Keith Dowber took three wickets for the loss of only one run in the final over.

The Sandwith Roofing Cup final between Sandwith Roofing and Broughton fell victim to the weather and rescheduled for yesterday evening.

Windscale Club, Seascale continued their Challenge Vase form into the league when they recorded a win over BCMS in division one.

Paul Knott (31ret) top scored for Windscale in their 119-8 after bowlers Gary Stewartson and Ritchie Knowles had taken 2-18 and 4-12 respectively. Steven Bragg hit 31 retired in BCMS’ 100-9.

Also in division one, Braithwaite Colts (119-9) beat Cockermouth Colts (96). Batting first, Braithwaite reached their total with good knocks from Phil Knight (33 ret), Harry Rigby (21) and Tom Smith (34ret).

Ryan Carruthers and Sam Slinger both scored 23 in defeat after Rigby had claimed 2-12 and Gilbert Pike 2-14.

In division two, Seascale Juniors beat Distington. Ollie Barrett and Jack Graham both retired on 30 for Seascale, who ended on 81-2, one shot ahead of Distington, who had earlier been restricted by the bowling of Matthew Jackson (2-15) and Harvey Browning (2-18).

Ben Kite’s 33 retired and Adam Johnson’s 47 not out helped Allonby to victory against West Cumbria Law Society. Chasing Allonby’s 108-3, WCLS could only manage 47 thanks to top bowling from Kyle Hillier (3-16) and John Bailey (3-17).
