Allerdale won the toss and elected to bat first in a game originally scheduled for May but postponed because of bad weather.

Openers Jim Creighton and Dominic Saunderson put on a good opening partnership before Saunderson was caught for 18.

After in-form Edward Mullen was dismissed cheaply Cockermouth’s Jack Spiers provided good support for Creighton and scored 34.

Creighton, who had top scored in an earlier district match against Carlisle, went on to make a fine 62.

Wigton’s Luke Williams hit his first three balls for four, making a very brisk 36 off just 22 balls, before Workington pair Kieren Irving (15no) and Liam Hazzard (24no) took the Allerdale total up to 233-5 after their 40 overs.

Allerdale were able to use all their bowling options during the Copeland response with eight different bowlers taking wickets.

Jonathan Norman and Kieren Irving each took two and Copeland were all out for 92.

A representative North team from Carlisle, Copeland and Allerdale will now play against the South of Cumbria on July 29 at Threlkeld.

The strength of the Cumbria Junior Cricket League, which spans the north and west of the County, was again underlined as Carlisle Green U13s and Penrith Gold U15s both won their respective County Cup finals.

Carlisle beat Barrow by five wickets while Penrith defeated Millom by 32 runs.

And Carlisle added to their silverware by claiming the U11 League Title for the second year in succession.

Four regional league winners - Appleby, Carlisle Green, Cockermouth and Workington - were to contest the play-off at a sunny Caldbeck on Sunday.

With Appleby unfortunately being unable to attend the finals and so the it became a three-way round-robin format.

In the first match, Harry Grant (20no) and Ashley Shields (14no) were the main contributors in the Carlisle total of 258.

Cockermouth, in their innings had made 233 with Ben Davidson claiming three wickets for four runs.

Cockermouth then went on to play Workington with the bowlers on both sides restricting the scores.

Workington posted 234, Matthew Fowler top scoring with six and Tom Norman taking two wickets for six runs.

An opening spell by Oliver Wilson of two wickets for one run from three overs helped to pin Cockermouth back in the first part of their innings and despite some late runs from Oscar Drimmie, their reply was restricted to 206.

That set up a Carlisle and Workington decider - a repeat of last year’s final - with Workington setting a useful 243, Zak Jones (9no) top scoring.

When Lewis Hull took two wickets in one over to leave Carlisle on 215 at the mid point, it looked like a close finish was in prospect and indeed that was the case, Carlisle making 250.

Elsewhere League Cup action was centre stage. Appleby won a nail-biting U15 game against Seascale by two runs.

Workington U11s were on the wrong end of a close game for the second time in 24 hours, this time going down to Penrith Gold by six wickets with just four balls to spare.

Sam Pryke (21) and James Bowstead (15) putting on 50 for the second wicket after Oliver Wilson had taken an early Penrith wicket in his spell of one for three.

This weekend sees the start of the second half of the U15 league programme with each of the two regional leagues having now split into a premier and division one.

This ensures that for the final five weeks of the season, the top teams will play each other each week in what should provide a fitting climax to the season.
