Three title chasers all win

WORKINGTON maintained their two point lead in the North Lancashire and Cumbria premier division with a nine-wicket win at Lindal Moor.

Meanwhile, chasers Cockermouth, with new pro Mahendra Nagamootoo, won by 120 runs at home against Millom.

Nagamootoo was a late replacement for Riffat Ullah who was called up early last week to the Pakistan A squad.

Workington dismissed Lindal Moor for 108, Matthew Gorley taking 4-36 and off-spinner Simon James 6-26.

In reply Workington opener Andrew Reed hit 46no and with Callum Moffat added 54.

Defending champions Cockermouth routed Millom with Mark Bowen taking 8-25 as the visitors slumped to 86 all out.

Earlier Cockermouth had posted 206-6 with opening bat Greg Platten scoring 76.

Cleator remain third after a three-wicket win over Duddon SC, who made 131, David Bell taking 3-9.

Relegated Wigton lost again by two wickets at Furness. Wigton were all out for 127.

Carlisle celebrated a thrilling winning draw at Keswick, after defending 126-6 off 34 overs in a rain-hit match. Openers Marc Brown and Usman Saeed were their top scorers with 40 and 45 respectively.

Keswick’s reply fell one run short on 125-7, opener Darren Collin top-scorng with 39. Adam Williamson claimed 5-24.

Haverigg won at home to Dalton by 196 runs. Haverigg openers Robert Bell and Stephen Chapman hit 87 and 101 respectively as they posted 254-4.

Dalton were then 58 all out as Adam Redhead, Sridharan Sriram and Roy Carton all picked up three wickets.

Penrith celebrated a league and cup double at the weekend - crowned division one champions on Saturday and then lifting the Sowerby Cup the next day.

And they did it in style by securing promotion back to the top flight with a 10-wicket win over Cleator Seconds before beating Vickerstown by 25 runs in the final.

Back in division one, Whitehaven are favourites to take the second promotion spot ahead of Vickerstown after beating Appleby Eden on Saturday.

Steve Dawson claimed 5-23 for Whitehaven as they dismissed Appleby for 104. Captain Jonny Bruce then hit an unbeaten 48 to see them reach their target on 105-3.

Vickerstown (209-7) beat Lanercost (135ao), Egremont (196ao) defeated BAE (185ao).

Keswick Seconds' total of 115-8 was enough to beat Ulverston, who replied with 78 all out in a low-scoring game. Veteran seamer Gordon Thompson took six wickets for the victors, whose top-scorer was opener Sam Gibson with a dogged 27.

Workington Seconds got a winning draw over Kirkby. Workington scored 195-5, led by Ian Batty with 82. Kirkby hit back with 146-9 as Kyle Galea claimed 3-29 and Jordan Whinn 3-40.
