Chapman’s hat-trick

HAVERIGG’S Steven Chapman picked up a hat-trick of awards at the close of the North Lancashire and Cumbria Cricket League season.

Left-handed opener Chapman was named Premier Division Players’ Player of 2007, collecting eight first place votes and with 846 runs at an average of 47, he won the division’s batting award.

His 846 runs sets a new amateur record for the Premier Division, previously set by Alan Sippy (821) in 2003.

Chapman also wins the John Richardson Award as amateur top run scorer.

Millom professional Narsingh Deonarine topped the Premier Division’s batting averages, scoring 765 runs averaging just under 64. His 209 against Lindal Moor was the highest ever score in the league’s history.

Furness professional Majid Jahangir was the top run scorer with 956. The R Ashburner Trophy for the Players’ Under-21 Player of 2007 went Alex Atkinson of Penrith, with Matthew Gorley (Workington) second and Greg Platten (Cockermouth) third.
