Best enterprise team

A MARYPORT school’s Young Enterprise company won the North West Cumbria award for best team.

Managing director Gary Charters, 16, was also named student of the year.

Netherhall School’s Globall, which sells Fairtrade sports balls, is following in the footsteps of last year’s Young Enterprise group, Making Waves.

That group, selling Maryport-related products, won a production prize at the national finals at the Savoy Hotel in London after winning the Cumbria and North West Finals events.

Globall members will now represent the north west in the Cumbrian finals, to be held at the Carlisle Racecourse on May 8.

Around 200 people attended the north west competitions which were held at Hunday Manor, Workington.

Six companies competed in this year’s event: Globall, Whirlwind from Cockermouth, Suds R Us from Workington Sixth Form Centre, Love Handles from Whitehaven School, Distinctive Designs and Starz 11, both from St Bees.

Results were: Globall - Netherhall 1, Starz 11 - St Bees 2, Whirlwind - Cockermouth 3.

Quality Award : Love Handles Whitehaven 1.

Spirit of West Cumbria Award: Suds R Us - Workington. Enterprise Award : Whirlwind. Innovation Award : Starz 11.
