Lakes Rocks a perfect start to West Cumbria festival season

TEN acts, one stage, eight hours of non-stop music and almost perfect weather - they said Lakes Rocks and it did.
From the polished performances of South Quay and Vertigo, to the raw acoustic talent of I Am Spartacus and the youthful exuberance of The Buoys, there was something for everyone at the event in the car park of Lakes College, Lillyhall.
Organised by college workers Gavin McKew and Jeanne Gate, about 200 people enjoyed music in the sunshine and endured occasional showers of rain at the first Lakes Rocks event.
Run with clockwork precision, band followed band at the event on Saturday, and other acts included Mazzoni, Shore, Gavin McKew, Kalmer, Feed Me and a special appearance by David Eldon, who performed an acoustic set.
The crowd appreciated all the acts but performance of the day must go to The Buoys, who had people dancing in front of the stage.
Impressive performances from almost all of the acts saw next to no cover songs, most performing their own songs.
It was a standout showcase from some of the area's best live acts and proved that West Cumbria does have talent and we're not afraid to prove it.
